EU publishers' forum to improve Community information provision
The European Commission and Office for Publications (Eur-OP) held a forum with European publishers in Luxembourg on 25 April 1997, with the aim of enhancing publishing cooperation in order to bring information on the EU closer to the citizen. The forum concentrated on licensing and pricing for possible cooperative ventures. Examples include the use by private publishers of Eur-OP's databases to bring information on European law and policies closer to the citizen, by improving accessibility and presenting the content in more appropriate formats. In return, Eur-OP aims to use the local knowledge of national publishers to achieve greater visibility for its products on these markets. The next meeting of the forum will be held at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October.
