Telematics Applications for the environment - An overview
The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a booklet providing an overview of the environment sector of the Telematics Applications specific RTD programme. The environment sector was introduced as an exploratory action in the Telematics Applications programme under the Fourth Framework Programme (1994-1998), and has a total budget of ECU 21 million. This action aims to increase links between industry, research and environmental quality, and will demonstrate applications and services for the emerging Information Society. The sector includes projects aimed at developing measurements for traffic and air quality, for improved disaster warning systems, and for regional environmental management. The Environment Telematics Cooperation Network involves 150 organizations in 20 cities and 25 regions, working on 18 projects. The environment sector of the Telematics Applications programme also has links with a number of other programmes, including the Environment and Climate RTD programme, the trans-European telecommunications network, the Environment-Water Task Force and the G7 Information Society pilot projects.
