A software tool for robust product development

Within the framework of the TITOSIM project work a software tool has been developed that covers all aspects of the entire Product Development Process (PDP).

The so-called "TITOSIM Prototype" software tool is an extended version of another tool that was previously developed under an FP4 project. From concept and design to production the "TITOSIM Prototype" covers all aspects of the entire Product Development Process (PDP). More specifically, computer and physical experiments, the capturing of subjective belief, robust design, sensitivity analysis and multi-objective optimisation features have been included. Unlike the currently available slow simulators and time-consuming experiments, the "TITOSIM Prototype" is very fast, yet simple to use due to highly adaptive mathematical models (emulators). These emulators feature increased accuracy and speed and enable the adoption of complex multi-objective and global optimisation algorithms. Aided by these innovative features, the optimal design solution for both the product and the related processes can be found in the fastest and more reliable and robust way. Taking into account the customer requirements, the tool is expected to offer engineers significant help in optimising real product designs as it allows making efficient use of simulators. Moreover, "TITOSIM Prototype" can also provide optimal design configurations by using a unique combination of statistical methods and algorithms. The promising tool is anticipated to improve the product development cycle, reduce the time to market while integrating customer requirements and suppliers specifications.
