Distributing information on IPv6 networks
In order for this goal to be achieved, a measurement device which inserts precise timestamp information when IPv6 packets are captured was developed. In addition, a measurement server which collects the packets that were time-stamped by the measurement device and provides usage data and QoS metrics such as delay, loss and jitter was designed. Following this, a demo was created in order to exemplify the system's potential. Thanks to a newly developed methodology, the framework allows secure, inter-domain measurements. In order to handle the problem of measuring QoS data in autonomous systems which are not under direct control of the measurement initiator, a local device sends a modified XML file. In this way, the final destination is reached and all the developed components are integrated and tested locally. The broad dissemination and association with related projects was conducted to allow advanced progress in standardisation activities. This is in the hope that the project results will be more widely distributed and that remaining R&D issues can be solved in the future.
