High technology mine detectors - call for ideas
The European Commission's Joint Research Centre has published a call for ideas for the development of high technology mine detectors. The Advanced Techniques Unit of the Joint Research Centre's Space Applications Institute is considering the development and eventual production of high technology mine detecting instrumentation in collaboration with industry. The overall design concept is based on fusing data derived from a multi-sensor system to provide a more efficient and effective decision on the existence and nature of the mine involved. This new concept is hoped to improve considerably the productivity of field mine operations. The detecting sensors under consideration include infra-red, surface-penetrating radar, and electromagnetic induction technologies.
