Setting the base for India-EU scientific research
The 'Initiative for the development and integration of Indian and European research' (New Indigo) project is helping to harmonise relationships between Europe and India by providing a relevant framework for cooperation. The project's goals include the setting up of a Networking Pilot Programme (NPP) to strengthen the international dimension of the European Research Area (ERA). New Indigo is enabling the Indian scientific community and research institutions to access the ERA and cooperate with European science and technology (S&T) organisations and benefit from participation in EU Framework Programmes. This can be achieved by maintaining a database of research programmes and partners in Europe and India, which can help decisions makers to develop future research strategies. Project partners have developed a dedicated website to support applicants to the NPP and scientists wishing to collaborate with counterparts in India and Europe. The site contains information on cooperation opportunities, including bilateral and national funding schemes, EU Framework Programmes and details of relevant partner search tools. Project partners also co-organised the EU-India S&T Cooperation Days, including a three-day event in New Delhi, India. The event offered advice on becoming involved in European projects, identifying funding opportunities, and how to contribute to future research topics of mutual interest. By combining the technical know-how and research infrastructure of the EU and India the New Indigo project promises to help realise significant scientific, economic and social benefits.
