Demonstration projects in the life sciences programmes
The European Commission, DG XII, has published a booklet outlining examples of demonstration projects under the Community's three specific RTD programmes in the field of life sciences: Agriculture and Fisheries (FAIR), Biotechnology (BIOTECH) and Biomedicine and Health (BIOMED). Demonstration projects were introduced for these three programmes under the Fourth Framework Programme as a means of fostering the adoption of newly developed technologies into real life practice. As such, demonstration projects are positioned at the research market interface. The projects described in the present publication are presented by means of a project summary (including a description of the current state of knowledge which allows for undertaking a demonstration phase), a statement of the demonstration objectives of the project, an account of the roles of each of the partners (either as technology producers or technology users) and a reference to the target groups identified in each case.
