Telematics for Libraries - Results of 1996 call
The European Commission, DG XIII, has published details of the Libraries sector projects selected for funding following the December 1996 call for proposals for the Telematics Applications programme. A total of 17 projects and eight accompanying measures will be funded by the Commission. The call was launched on 17 December 1996 (OJ No S 244 of 17.12.1996 p. 55), and some ECU 10 million was set aside for the Libraries sector. Examples of areas to be addressed by projects selected for funding include: - Facilitating access to digital collections both within and outside the library; - Developing distance education courses for training librarians and end-users; - Digitization of back-issues of journals; - Development of integrated access to heterogeneous resources.
