Knowledge without borders for renewable energy
Slovakia's Kosice region and Hungary's Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén (an administrative county commonly called Northern Hungary) are facing the same challenges when it comes to competitiveness and innovation. Cooperation would mean an acceleration in economic development for both regions. The EU-funded KNOWBRIDGE project aims to realise this cooperation ideal by strengthening capacity and research potential in the area. The project supports the development of innovative, cross-border research around renewable energy sources and associated research entities, enterprises and regional authorities. It will also help to mentor regions and enable mutual learning and knowledge transfer. KNOWBRIDGE is expected to produce a methodological toolbox for analysis and benchmarking, as well as a comprehensive list of development topics and priorities. A clear set of strategic and specific objectives, joint research projects and actions will also be developed. The idea is to continue to improve links between regional authorities, research entities and local business communities across Europe. In this way, regional economic development and competitiveness will be stimulated, resulting in improved cost efficiency, more jobs and higher gross domestic product.
