Recognising that knowledge is power, an EU-funded consortium is enhancing information dissemination in the aeronautical and aerospace sector. The resulting power will manifest itself in a leading global position for the EU.

Researchers, academicians and those working in the aerospace industry face difficulties keeping abreast of new information and putting it to use. Dissemination is sometimes fragmented, duplicated, inharmonious and without optimal efficiency. Even attending multiple smaller conferences for information about a certain topic can be inefficient due to inconsistencies in information presented at events. A consortium of six European associations in different areas of aeronautical research joined their technical and logistical skills for optimal organisation of joint dissemination events. Recognising the critical importance of harmonised dissemination to Europe’s competitive edge, the EU is funding their project ‘European collaborative dissemination of aeronautical research and applications’ (E-CAERO). The associations represent members in the aeronautics, turbo-machinery and aerospace sectors with subfields including materials, structures, fluid and aerodynamics and combustion. These areas are addressed through information on theoretical and experimental activities as well as design methodologies. Consortium partners are implementing several approaches toward a common dissemination strategy. Conferences, workshops and seminars organised in the past by individual partners are now being jointly arranged to increase harmonisation of topics. In addition, the partners have organised new events that are the first of their kind. The project webpage is a freely available important gateway to all related research topics. Partners have also developed a software tool for conference managers for better organisation and execution of events. This tool assists in all steps of logistics from creation and administration of an event to management of registration and presentations. The consortium has already used it to plan some of the project-related events. Aside from continued activity in the above domains, the team will focus on creating an umbrella organisation that will facilitate smooth and effective dissemination of research knowledge. Overall, E-CAERO plans to streamline the process of spreading the word about aeronautical and aerospace research to research entities, industry and policy makers. This will ensure more efficient and rapid use of the expert work being conducted throughout the EU.
