The European Environment Agency (EEA) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) have produced a multimedia educational package entitled "Exploring Europe's Environment". Four key areas of environmental information are covered by the package - water and rivers; coast and seas; forests; and urban areas. Content includes text, maps, photographs and statistical data, mostly taken from the EEA publication, "Europe's Environment: The Dobris Assessment", published in 1995. The package allows students and teachers to retrieve data and case studies, and relate these to local observations. Selections may be exported and incorporated in other documents, allowing easy creation of worksheets or reports on specific topics. The need for active participation from student users means that the package should hold the interest of students. The package is designed for secondary school pupils aged between 11 and 16. It includes a 130-page book and software designed for Windows 95. Currently the package is only available in English, although the EEA and WWF are raising funds to enable other language versions to be published. In addition, as "Europe's Environment" is updated, towards the end of 1998, the two organizations hope to be able to launch an updated version, ensuring that the package stays current.
