Resources for library cooperation with Central and Eastern Europe
The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a list of information resources on Central and Eastern European countries. The list has been prepared within the framework of the Libraries sector of the Telematics Applications specific RTD programme. The Libraries sector already maintains a number of resources on the sector which are available on the World Wide Web. Libraries and other organizations from the Central and Eastern European countries are encouraged to participate in its activities. In particular, it aims to encourage dissemination of the results of its projects to the widest possible grouping of libraries in Europe. As part of this effort, the Commission has published an information pack entitled, "Introducing information technology in libraries". The new list of resources allows access to less specific information, from a libraries' point of view, although it will provide valuable information for those considering cooperative activities with organizations from Central and Eastern Europe. Examples of the resources included are: news services; financial and business information services; economic research information; education and science resources; statistical information; and information on government and legislation.
