SUNJET established an initial framework, database and network to facilitate and enhance the cooperation in aeronautics research and innovation between Japan and Europe. It introduced a more structured dialogue to identify the similarities in the respective research agendas and roadmaps. The project identified EU-Japan cooperation areas of mutual benefits in aeronautics research and innovation. It also proposed win-win research and innovation cooperation roadmaps in these areas. Furthermore, SUNJET established a mutual understanding of administrative mechanisms and clarified the principles governing such EU-Japan cooperation in research and innovation. This was respective of funding mechanisms as well as identifying the main barriers towards cooperation and suggesting ways to overcome them. SUNJET identified areas where the cooperation topics were mutually favoured, assuring a good reciprocity between research institutes and academia. The topics included areas such as engines, systems and equipment. As a significant result a roadmap of potential joint research topics was been established as well as rules and reference that are beneficial to all.
