Information on diagnosis of occupational diseases
The European Commission, DG V, has published a book of information notices concerning the diagnosis of occupational diseases. The notices contain medical information prepared by an expert group relating to a schedule of occupational diseases set out by a Commission Recommendation of 1990. The Commission has undertaken work in the field since 1962, with the overall aim of raising the collective knowledge, within Europe, of the causes and effects of occupational diseases. There are clear differences in the methods of reporting, recognizing and paying compensation for occupational diseases in the various Member States. The present book provides information on the causal relationships between diseases and exposures in the workplace, and will be of interest to physicians, hygienists, the social partners and national authorities. The notices are based on published evidence obtained from scientific investigations in the past 30 years or so.
