INTAS supports projects in the following seven scientific areas: - Physics, astrophysics and astronomy; - Mathematics, telecommunications, information technologies; - Chemistry; - Life sciences; - Earth sciences, environment, energy; - Engineering sciences, aeronautics, space; - Economics, social and human sciences. The 1997 call announcement covers six separate calls: the INTAS Open Call 97, the INTAS-Belarus Call 97, the INTAS-Georgia Call 97, the INTAS-Kazakhstan Call 97, the INTAS-Russian Foundation for Humanities Call 97 and the INTAS-Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (FR) Call 97. INTAS Open Call 97: The indicative budget for the INTAS Open Call 97 is ECU 12 million. Proposals for joint research projects, which may cover all scientific fields, must involve at least four research teams: two from different organizations in the NIS and two from different INTAS members. The maximum allowable funding per project is ECU 30,000 multiplied by the number of participating NIS teams, subject to an overall maximum of ECU 150,000. Not more than 20% of the total project grant will be available to teams from INTAS members. Proposals for networks must involve at least three teams from INTAS members and three from the NIS. The maximum funding per network is ECU 10,000 multiplied by the number of NIS teams, subject to an overall maximum of ECU 60,000. Not more than 30% of the total funding will be available to teams from INTAS members. The funding will be restricted to the costs of coordination, travel, and samples. INTAS-Belarus Call 97: The INTAS-Belarus Call 97 will benefit from an indicative budget of ECU 1 million for joint research projects in all scientific fields. Proposals must involve at least three research teams, one of which must be from the Republic of Belarus and two from different INTAS members. Research teams from other NIS countries may also participate. The maximum allowable funding per project is ECU 35,000 for proposals involving one Belarussian organization or ECU 60,000 for projects involving two or more Belarussian organizations. An additional amount of up to 10% of the total project grant could be made available to teams from NIS countries other than Belarus. Not more than 20% of the total project grant will be available to teams from INTAS members. INTAS-Georgia Call 97: The indicative budget for the INTAS-Georgia Call 97 is ECU 1 million for joint research projects in all scientific fields. Proposals must involve at least three research teams, one of which must be from the Republic of Georgia and two from different INTAS members. Research teams from other NIS countries may also participate. The maximum allowable funding per project is ECU 35,000 for proposals involving one Georgian organization or ECU 60,000 for projects involving two or more Georgian organizations. An additional amount of up to 10% of the total project grant could be made available to teams from NIS countries other than Georgia. Not more than 20% of the total project grant will be available to teams from INTAS members. INTAS-Kazakhstan Call 97: The indicative budget for the INTAS-Kazakhstan Call 97 is ECU 1 million for joint research projects in all scientific fields. Proposals must involve at least three research teams, one of which must be from the Republic of Kazakhstan and two from different INTAS members. Research teams from other NIS countries are also eligible for participation. The maximum allowable funding per project is ECU 35,000 for proposals involving one Kazakh organization or ECU 60,000 for projects involving two or more Kazakh organizations, an additional amount of up to 10% of the total grant could be made available to teams from NIS countries other than Kazakhstan. Not more than 20% of the total project grant will be available to teams from INTAS members. INTAS-Russian Foundation for Humanities Call 97: The indicative budget for this call is ECU 1 million for joint research projects in the field of "Economic, Social and Human Sciences". Proposals must involve at least four research teams, two of which must be from the Russian Federation and two from different INTAS members. Research teams from other NIS countries are also eligible for participation. Proposals are restricted to the scientific field "Economic, Social and Human Sciences". The maximum allowable funding per project is EUC 60,000, though an additional amount of up to 10% of the total project grant could be made available to research teams from NIS countries other than Russia.
