World`s leading innovation research experts to meet in Germany

More than a hundred of the world`s most important innovation researchers will attend an international conference from September 25 to 28 in Karlsruhe, Germany.

More than a hundred of the world`s most important innovation researchers will attend an international conference from September 25 to 28 in Karlsruhe, Germany, where they will address the question of which instruments and methods can be used to measure the progress in science and technology. Frequently patent statistic or bibliometric data are applied. Based on the data gathered the researchers draw conclusions about the dynamics of various fields of science and technology. The Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI and the Institute for Economic Policy Research IWW of the University of Karlsruhe, have invited the scientists from around the world to exchange views and information on the latest developments in this area. ,For example, the researchers can show that new biotechnological procedures and discoveries have had a significant effect on the pharmaceuticals industry. At the end of the 1990s, 40 percent of the world`s pharmaceutical patent applications bore some connection to biotechnology, with the development being much more dynamic in the United States than in most European countries. But the situation is different in sectors like mechanical engineering or optical technologies. According to a Fraunhofer ISI study, the level of innovation in this area is remarkably high in Germany. Results of this type frequently appear in reporting on the technological performance capabilities of European countries; quite recently such a report was issued for Germany. It was submitted by the leading German economists and innovation researchers, and was directed for the first time by the Fraunhofer ISI together with the IWW. In the year of its 30th anniversary the Fraunhofer ISI, specializing in innovation research, is hosting the bi-annual conference, together with the University of Karlsruhe. The University and the Fraunhofer ISI collaborate closely in innovation research activities. Thus the deputy director of the Institute, Hariolf Grupp, is at the same time Professor for System Dynamics and Innovation at the University`s Institute for Economic Policy Research IWW. You will find details on the conference and a registration form in the Internet at: http://www.indicators-conference.isi.fhg.de/index.html,The(opens in new window) Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI complements the techno-scientific spectrum of the Fraunhofer Society with economic and societal aspects, analyzing technological developments, their market potentials and their impacts on economy, state and society. The Institute`s interdisciplinary teams focus their work especially on the fields of energy, environment, production, communication and biotechnology, as well as regional research and research policy.
