EU Research Programmes and Related Activities - CORDIS Focus Supplement
The "EU research programmes and related activities" CORDIS Focus Supplement has now been revised. This second edition provides an overview of EU programmes, initiatives and other activities of interest to European researchers, as well as a sketch of the current direction of the Fifth RTD Framework Programme. Following the success of the first edition of the Programmes Supplement, which was published in January 1997, the second edition has been updated to reflect the major developments which have taken place since then. A number of new activities have been added while many existing entries have been revised to incorporate key changes and other new information. Many Internet addresses - a valuable source of up-to-date information on a programme's activities - have also been added and are now available for the majority of programmes. One major development since the publication of the first edition is the adoption by the Commission of its draft plan for the Fifth RTD Framework Programme in April 1997. A special seven-page feature based on this draft plan has been included providing an overview of the initial content and structure of proposed EU research activities for the period 1998-2002. All told, almost 120 programmes and initiatives, either current or planned, are contained within this Supplement. For each programme a brief overview is provided of the programme's aims, objectives and activities. Contacts points from where further information can be obtained are also included. Areas covered by the Supplement include: - Fourth Framework Programme; - Euratom Framework Programme; - Joint Research Centre; - Research/Industry Task Forces; - European Coal and Steel Community research programmes; - Structural Funds; - Information Society; - Environment; - Energy; - International cooperation; - Education and training; - Health and safety. Obtaining copies of the Programmes Supplement: - Subscribers to the English edition: All new subscribers to the English edition of CORDIS Focus (i.e. since 1 January 1997) will automatically receive a copy of the second edition of the Supplement. Subscribers who already received the first edition and would like to receive a copy of the revised one, should contact the RTD Help Desk. - Subscribers to the French and German editions: The CORDIS Focus Supplement will shortly be translated into French and German. All French and German subscribers will receive their copies in due course. Those wishing to receive the English edition should contact the RTD Help Desk. - Subscribers to the Italian and Spanish editions: Spanish and Italian readers who had previously subscribed to the English edition since 1 January 1997 will receive an English copy of the Supplement automatically. Those readers who subscribed to the English edition before 1 January 1997 or who would like to receive a copy in either French and German should contact the RTD Help Desk.
