European Research 2002: over 2000 benefit so far from registering before the early-bird deadline of 15 September
While people typically register close to a conferences start date, a surge of bookings is expected this week as the price goes up from 180 to 250 after 15 September. In addition, to help participants establish contacts before the conference starts, a new networking service has just been launched, while the final programme with details of all speakers will be announced next week. The conference launching the Sixth Framework Programme is about two months away, starting on 11 November, and over 2000 people have already registered. The highest number of registrations so far comes from the United Kingdom (nearly 300) with Germany second at about 200. France and Belgium are close behind not very surprisingly given there proximity to the conference venue but what is surprising, perhaps, is that there are already almost 400 registrations from Eastern Europe including 150 registrations from Poland. The conference is thus well on the way to the expected attendance of over 5000 people, many of whom may register this week before the price goes up from 180 to 250 (or from 60 to 80 for accession countries). To help facilitate networking at such a large conference, the Commission is providing the opportunity for participants to register their interests, establish contacts with those having similar or complementary interests, and arrange meetings even before arriving. This is done via the conferences MingleZoneÔ which can be accessed via the conference web site: http://europa.eu.int/comm/research/conferences/2002/index_en.html(opens in new window) For further information, please contact: Michel Claessens Press and Information Officer, Research DG,Tel: +32.2.29.59971 Fax: +32.2.29.58220 ,E-mail: Michel.Claessens@cec.eu.int,For more information on the European Commissions Research DG, including previous press releases, visit our Web site at http://europa.eu.int/comm/research/(opens in new window)
