New CD-ROM on multi-lingual Environmental Thesauri and Glossaries
The Information network between the Austrian and the German Federal Environment Agency is tightening. After the jointly developed Thesaurus for the Catalogue of Data Sources (UDK-Thesaurus) the new THESshow CD-ROM is presented, offering multi-lingual environmentally relevant Thesauri and Glossaries. The customized Software THESshow allows a quick search for documents and data and may also be employed for developing and maintaining of library and other information systems. In the way of a dictionary, Thesauri are a tool to file documentation systems according to pre-defined content-related keywords. The new "THESshow" CD-ROM offers: UDK-Thesaurus Version 6, GEMET (General Multilingual Environment Thesaurus) in 19 languages, ENVOC (Multilingual Thesaurus of Environmental Terms, UNEP/INFOTERRA) in four UN-languages, the Vocabulary of Waste Management of the Austrian Standards Institute in nine languages and the "Lexicon of Forest Damaging Air Pollutants" of the Austrian Federal Office and Research Centre for Forests (BFW) in German and English. In a co-operation of the Austrian and German Federal Environment Agencies with the Italian Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), in Rome, the Software "SuperThes" was newly developed for maintenance of multi-lingual Thesauri according to the standards DIN 1462 / ISO 2788 and DIN / ISO 5964. "THESshow" and "SuperThes" may both be customized to user-specific requirements.
