Invitation to Media briefing: UK goes to the Planets
As space agencies around the world review their manned space programmes in the aftermath of the Columbia disaster, we offer an opportunity to hear about the challenging robotic missions which form the foundation of space exploration. , ,Dr John Zarnecki of the Planetary and Space Sciences Research Institute, Open University, will give an overview of the involvement of UK scientists in planetary exploration. We will then hear from:,· Dr Sarah Dunkin of the Space Science and Technology Department, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, on the European Space Agency's technology mission to the Moon, to be launched in July 2003,· Professor Carl Murray, Solar System Dynamics Group, University of London, on the joint NASA/ESA mission to Saturn and its moon Titan,· Professor Fred Taylor, Department of Physics, Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics, at the University of Oxford will speak on the planetary family. , ,This briefing is sponsored by the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council and forms part of the Association of British Science Writer's programme.
