The Parc Cientific de Barcelona defines its future by signing agreements with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the CSIC and the DURSI
... and another with the Departament d'Universitats, Recerca i Societat (DURSI, Catalan governments Ministry of Universities, Research and the Information Society). The signing of these agreements was preceded by the signing of a joint statement of intent which will ensure the continued development of the PCB project and make it one of the best research and innovation sites within the European Research Area. The signing of the agreements took place in the Parc Científic de Barcelona during a ceremony attended by the Spanish Minister for Science and Technology, Josep Piqué, the Catalan Minister for Universities, Research and the Information Society, Andreu Mas-Colell, the President of the CSIC, Emilio Lora-Tamayo, the Rector of the UB and President of the Parc Científic de Barcelona Foundation, Joan Tugores, and the Director of the PCB, Màrius Rubiralta. The agreement signed with the Ministry of Science and Technology and the CSIC reflects a wish to support the Parc Científic de Barcelona project by creating an innovative network of relationships between universities and companies within the framework of Spains Innovation System. The Ministry will promote the incorporation into the PCB of researchers from the UB, the Catalan Institute of Advanced Research Studies (ICREA) and the CSIC, and these bodies, together with the companies already established in the modular building and the Parks technological facilities, will enable a new research and technological innovation structure to be developed within the field of pharmaceutical, biomedical and biotechnology research. Through the agreement the Ministry will provide 9 million of FEDER funding aimed at promoting the new innovative environment of the PCB. The Catalan governments Ministry for Universities, Research and the Information Society has earmarked 9.6 million to consolidate the PCB project, aimed especially at producing first class public biomedical research within the framework of the Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona (IRBB-PCB). This will help to develop the ICREA programme, ensuring its smooth incorporation into the PCB laboratories, and will provide the financial resources necessary to create new competitive research teams as part of the IRBB-PCB project. As part of the agreement the Parc Científic de Barcelona has expressed an interest in joining the Catalan governments Association of Research Centres (ACER), in accordance with the main objectives of the III Research Plan for Catalonia and the Innovation Plan for Catalonia. In order to complement the wishes expressed by the various bodies in signing the agreements the Universitat de Barcelona and the Parc Científic de Barcelona, together with the sponsors the bank Caixa Catalunya and the Fundació Bosch i Gimpera (Bosch i Gimpera Foundation), have invited the two government bodies and the CSIC to form part of the Board of Trustees of the Parc Científic de Barcelona Foundation as institutions.
