New version of international dissertation database on STN
Karlsruhe, October 2003 The worlds leading online service for sci-tech information STN International, whose European partner is FIZ Karlsruhe, has complemented its offer of specialist databases with a new version of the dissertation database DISSABS. The bibliographic database DISSABS is the authoritative source for information about doctoral dissertations and master's theses accepted at accredited North American universities since 1861. Selected masters theses from 1962 and dissertations from other institutions worldwide are also included. The database represents the work of authors from over 1,000 graduate schools and universities and covers a variety of subject areas, including biotechnology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, pharmaceuticals, and toxicology. The records in DISSABS are from the following printed journals:,- American Doctoral Dissertations,- Comprehensive Dissertation Index,- Dissertation Abstracts International,- Masters Abstracts DISSABS records may include the advisor, author, institution, and subject area as well as abstracts written by the author. ,The database contains over 1,800,000 records from 1861 to the present. It is updated monthly. On average, 47,000 new dissertations and 12,000 new theses are added to the database each year, making it an important source of information for information professionals and users involved in R&D. DISSABS is produced by ProQuest Information and Learning Company, Ann Arbor, MI, USA. DISSABS can be accessed by dialling in to STNs online service using its powerful proprietary client software, STN Express with Discover! Alternatively, it can be accessed directly over the Internet using a standard web browser (http://stnweb.fiz-karlsruhe.de ).
