In the context of the programme for the establishment of an international information services market (IMPACT II) the Commission of the European Communities invites proposals for projects to produce interactive multimedia information services. Such services are collections of images, text and data, together with sound, video, animation and simulation, where appropriate, and include interactive interfaces and retrieval mechanisms. Services may be offered on digital optical media for use on stand-alone devices or transmitted via telecommunications channels. The call aims at the creation of multimedia services for a wide consumer and professional market and focuses on four subject areas: - European arts (painting, architecture, music, sculpture); - General knowledge about Europe (landscapes, historical sites, cities, places of interest, recreation areas, folklore, climate, natural resources); - Human health issues of interest to a wide public (childcare, fitness, environment, nutrition); - Aids for the maintenance of technical equipment (servicing of vehicles, electronic appliances, industrial plant). Community financial contribution for the initial definition phase will be on a shared-cost basis (up to 50% of allowable costs, or 65% of allowable costs in the case of SMEs or enterprises established in less-favoured regions) with subsequent cofinancing, to 50% of development costs, of the implementation phase of a reduced number of projects to a Community support ceiling of ECU 250,000, following criteria and conditions set out in the call. Detailed information on submission of proposals plus a technical background and guidance document is available on request from: Commission of the European Communities IMPACT Central Office, DG XIII-B2 Jean Monnet Building C4/33 L-2920 Luxembourg Fax +352-43013190/43012847.
