The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a call for proposals for projects of common interest in the field of interoperation and development of trans-European telecommunications networks. Project proposals should cover studies which establish the feasibility of networks development and interoperation, with the aim of supporting the introduction of multimedia services for end users on a trans-European basis. These activities can cover Central and Eastern Europe as well as the Community, although work performed by companies established outside the Community cannot be funded by TEN-Telecom. Proposals must refer to one or more of the following project areas: - TI 3.2.1: Development and interoperation of satellite networks and the commercial validation of applications and services using satellite infrastructures, including market surveys of multimedia services, interoperation of satellites and different terrestrial networks; - TI 3.2.2: Development and interoperation of mobile networks, including projects supporting the commercial validation of advanced and innovative mobile services and applications (very high speed data communications, Internet/Intranet applications, mobile video, etc.); - TI 3.2.3: Global network development and interoperation, in particular considering the increasing number of fixed, satellite and mobile networking technologies, including ATM, xDSL, cable modems, etc. The indicative Community budget allocation for this call ranges from ECU 10 to 12 million. The financial regulations for the TEN-Telecom programme require that proposed projects be partly financed by a public entity or an equivalent body - an example would be a telecom operator, or a content provider in areas of public interest. While proposals can be accepted by a single company from a single country (in this case a public entity or equivalent), proposals must be transnational in the sense that they satisfy needs existing in several Member States. An Information Day relating to this call will take place in Brussels, Belgium, on 30 January 1998. The text of this call, the Information Package and the proposal forms, as well as a registration form for the Information Day, are available on the TEN-Telecom Web site at: http://www.echo.lu/tentelecom For further information, please contact: European Commission DG XIII - Telecommunications, information market and exploitation of research DG XIII/A - TEN-Telecom 200 rue de la Loi (BU31 3/7) B-1049 Brussels Tel. 32-2-2968985; Fax +32-2-2961740
