Professional online searches for German Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPCs)

FIZ Karlsruhe now offers a new database containing all German Supplementary Protection Certificates from 1992 onwards. In certain cases, patent protection for drugs or plant protection products can be prolonged by up to five years.

In co-operation with the German Patent and Trademark Office, Munich, FIZ Karlsruhe has developed a special SPC database for these protection certificates which extend protection for products already approved for the market. The new file, PATDPASPC (German Supplementary Protection Certificates for Drugs and Plant Protection Agents), is made available worldwide through STN International, the premier online service for sci-tech information. PATDPASPC currently contains 659 SPCs. It is updated at regular intervals, with 50 - 60 new SPCs added each year. New SPCs will be searchable in the database shortly after they have been filed with the German Patent and Trademark Office. For protected substances, records in PATDPASPC comprise the trade name, the SPC document number, SPC product type, SPC application and grant date, and SPC term. The lapse date of an SPC is numerically searchable.,Publication number, application date and IPC class for the related patent are also given. Certified compounds are searchable with chemical names and CAS Registry numbers. ,Special display codes allow to display additional information on the associated patent from the database PATDPA. All information in PATDPASPC can be accessed through STN's powerful search functions. Search terms may be entered individually, or logically concatenated in a combined search. Only results matching all predefined criteria are retrieved. Simultaneous left and right truncation (searches using the root of a word, with prefixes and/or suffixes substituted by question marks) is also possible. PATDPASPC is not available with any other online host. The more than 220 databases hosted on STN International can be accessed by dialing in to STN's online service using its powerful proprietary client software, "STN Express with Discover!, or over the Internet using a standard web browser (http://stnweb.fiz-karlsruhe.de(opens in new window)). At a later date, PATDPASPC may also be available via STN Easy, the point-and-click interface for occasional searchers unfamiliar with the STN command language (http://stneasy.fiz-karlsruhe.de(opens in new window)). STN International is one of the world's leading providers of patent information. The information network offers professional solutions in the field of patent rights.
