GDR-E and Phantoms Foundation initiated Strategic Partnership in Nanotubes

The GDR-E (European Group of Research on the Science and Applications of Nanotubes) has become a Strategic Partner of the Phantoms Foundation, non-profit organisation based in Madrid (Spain).

This collaboration will start with the organisation by the GDR-E section on "Nanoelectronics and Field Emission" of a session entitled "Carbon Nanotubes Based Nanoelectronics and Field Emission" at the upcoming Trend in NanoTechnology (TNT2005) International Conference Series., ,GDR-E is a key actor in Europe in developing and spreading excellence in Carbon Nanotubes Science & Technology. This strategic partnership will represent a very good opportunity for providing latest advances in the following topics fostering collaborations and scientific advances:,1) Development of nanoelectronics made of nanotubes in order to fabricate passive or active electronic devices and components,2) Increase of the knowledge and understanding of the nanotube growth mechanisms for a better control of the structural characteristics of the nanotubes in order to develop production processes more optimized and adapted to the applications, ,The following individuals will take part to the TNT2005 session coorganised by GDR-E:,-Harold Kroto (Florida State University, USA): "Some new insights into the mechanisms of Nanostructure Assembly" ,-Yoshio Bando (NIMS, Japan): "Nanotube filling with solids, liquids and gases" ,-Colin Lambert (Lancaster University, UK): "Spin-polarised electron transport in organic molecules and carbon nanotubes" ,-Richard Martel (Montreal University, Canada): "Carbon Nanotube Electronics: Electroluminescence Devices and Self-Assembly" ,-Bill Milne (Cambridge University, UK): "Carbon Nanotubes as Electron Sources" ,-Bibiana Onoa (Dupont, USA): "Carbon Nanotubes and Nucleic Acids: Tools and Targets" ,-Siegmar Roth (M-P-I fuer Festkoerperforschung, Germany): "Transistor from Individual Nanotubes" , ,About the Phantoms Foundation: ,The Phantoms Foundation (Madrid, Spain), funded by Dr. Antonio Correia and Prof. Clivia Sotomayor Torres, focuses its activities on Nanotechnology and Emerging Nanoelectronics. This research group involves the French teams of the previous GDR group and teams of different countries of the European Union. In France, this GDR is financially supported by the CNRS and the CEA, whereas the European teams receive support from their own organisms. ,The objectives of the group are the following: -To develop nanoelectronics made of nanotubes in order to fabricate passive or active electronic devices and components (thematic 1) ,-To control the chemical and/or electro-chemical funtionalization of nanotubes in order to increase their dispersibility in liquids and reactivity (thematic 2) ,-To evaluate qualitatively and quantitatively the environmental impact of nanotubes and in particular their interaction with the molecules and organisms of the living world (thematic 3) ,-To increase our knowledge and understanding of the nanotube growth mechanisms for a better control of the structural characteristics of the nanotubes in order to develop production processes more optimized and adapted to the applications (thematic 4). ,WEB site:,http://www.cnrs-imn.fr/GDRE_NanoE/index.html ,Contact: Prof. Annick Loiseau (Annick.loiseau@onera.fr)
