AVISTA launches a new website and experiment a collaborative working environment for NAVSHP projects

AVISTA has launched a new website portal on the Networked Audiovisual Systems and Home Platforms (NAVSHP) strategic objective of the Information Society Technologies thematic priority of the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Commission.

The new url AVISTA Website portal is http://www.ist-avista.org(opens in new window). The new design focuses in facilitating relevant information and access to the documentation through friendly interfaces (Figure 1). A more extended website-portal, adding collaborative working tools, has been designed and it is offered to NAVSHP projects for their use in the concertation activities. New tools are, for example:,- Chat, where the persons can communicate online. ,- Discussion forums where the users can share ideas and opinions about of specific topics.,- Access to project place (Content management system). The ability to collaborate online and get relevant content increases use of the website and bandwidth. For this reason, a model (Figure 2) based in a collaborative functionality between the persons involved in the NAVSHP strategic objective has been designed.This new portal substitutes the previous one, http://www.rose.es/navshp(opens in new window) which has served to NAVSHP concertation since October 2003. The structure and sections of the new website-portal are: - Information about AVISTA partners,- Information about AVISTA project,- NAVSHP portfolio,- Events (Conferences, Workshop, Trade Shows and other relevant events for AVISTA).,- AVISTA Newsletters,- Concertation meetings,- FP6 Projects (IPs, NoEs, STREPs, SSAs),- FP5 Projects,- Coordination groups (CG1, CG2, CG3 y CG4) of the NAVSHP concertation process,- Useful links,- News,- AVISTA Partners (Restricted area). The Avista website project has been developed with a reliable and robust framework. The computer technologies that has been implemented: Apache web server, MySQL and PHP.AVISTA is a Specific Support Action project within the NAVSHP strategic objective, funded by the European Commission FP6 programme. It aims at supporting the FP6 projects in the area in a number of topics: concertation, projects portfolio, standardization, New Media Council, common exhibitions, etc. AVISTA partners are: ROSE Vision (coordinator), TELVIUM, INSTITUT FUER RUNDFUNKTECHNIK GMBH (IRT), PHILIPS ELECTRONICS NEDERLAND B.V. TELEDIFFUSION DE FRANCE.
