The Hungary/EC Energy Management and Technology Dissemination Centre is to open in Budapest in July 1992 following an agreement signed on 26 May 1992 by representatives of the Hungarian Government and the European Communities. The Centre aims to strengthen cooperation in the field of energy management both within Hungary itself and between Hungary and the EC. In particular it will promote energy conservation and efficiency, better management and improved technologies to ensure security of supplies for sustainable economic development. Activities will include the exchange of experience and research results, energy management training courses, information and publicity, plus support for energy planning and technology transfer. The Energy Centre will also host activities in the framework of the THERMIE programme. Funds for this joint project have been made available by Hungarian institutions, the Commission's Directorate-General for Energy and the PHARE programme.
