The European Commission, DG XI, has published an invitation to tender for a study on natural radionuclide concentrations in materials processed in the chemical industry and the related radiological impact. The objective of this study is to provide a summary of the processes, volumes, management systems and radiological hazards associated with wastes containing enhanced concentrations of natural radionuclides in the chemical industry in the EU, and to identify areas of concern and assess the need for future regulatory action, taking into account future developments. The study must be completed within 12 months. The budget for the contract has been estimated at ECU 50,000 to ECU 100,000.
