Telemedicine via satellite. Symposium at ESA/ESRIN

Shaping a telemedicine programme in space, responding to the medical world's needs on earth, is one of the objectives of the European Space Agency's long-term plan for telecommunications.

5 July 2004 - 5 July 2004
France
For over a year, a process of consultation has been undertaken throughout the healthcare community. Instead of developing projects driven mainly by technology or industry, the aim now is to develop projects driven by demand from health professionals themselves.
This process will culminate during the second symposium on telemedicine via satellite organised by ESA, which takes place on Monday 5 July at ESAs Space Research Institute (ESRIN), Frascati, Italy.
The symposium will discuss the findings of the multinational multidisciplinary group set up by ESA to define the needs of health and telemedicine services that could be met by space solutions.
ESA hopes to ensure that the medical profession makes the best use of the many services offered by communication satellites to improve the health of Europes citizens.Media representatives wishing to attend this symposium are kindly requested to complete the attached accreditation form and fax it to : Simonetta Cheli (+39.06.9418.0952)
