Canada hosts 4th World Conference of Science Journalists

Between October 4th and 8th 2004, science journalists from all over the world will converge on Montreal at the 4th World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ).

Event coordinators are especially proud to welcome such prominent and celebrated speakers as Dr. Kathy Reichs, forensic anthropologist and best-selling crime author; controversial Skeptical Environmentalist Bjorn Lomborg; Jeremy Webb, editor of New Scientist; Dr. Richard E. Taylor, Nobel Prize winning physicist; and John Rennie, editor in chief of Scientific American.
During the 4-day conference, participants will get a chance to partake in discussions and debates with some of the worlds most knowledgeable and influential scientists, journalists, editors and authors on topics as varied as the challenges of science journalism, science in its social context and reporting techniques. In total, 80 distinguished guest speakers will be on hand to share their unique expertise, experiences and opinions. Participating journalists will also be getting some of the latest scientific scoops by attending daily exclusive press conferences by prominent researchers from leading scientific institutions.
Visits to some of Canada's premier organizations for scientific and medical research will also be offered to participants. In addition to touring the facilities, journalists will get a chance to speak with and interview leading researchers who contribute to Canadian and international scientific advancement. Tours will be organized in Montréal as well as in the province of Québec and the rest of Canada.
The WCSJ 2004 is expecting over 350 participants. To date, more than 250 journalists have registered. Participants include 70 scholarship recipients chosen among numerous highly qualified and highly motivated applicants from developing countries and countries in transition.
