The Convention of National Societies of Electrical Engineers of Europe (EUREL), in cooperation with the European Commission, will organize a forum on microelectronics, in Brussels, Belgium, on May 28 1998.

The main focus of this forum will be an analysis of the opportunities for improving Europe's market position and further developing technology by promoting intense activity in microelectronics, hardware and software development, and the increased production of semi-conductor devices.

Problems related to the lack of development in the microelectronics sector, and the subsequent risk of losing position in the international market in a number of high-tech sectors will also be discussed.

The forum will comprise addresses from three main speakers, the Deputy Director General of the European Commission's DG III, Mr. Joern Keck, the president of EUREL, Professor John Midwinter, and the manager of market research from Siemens, Dr. Urs Rohrer. These speeches will be followed by a panel discussion.
