A symposium on the science of conservation and restoration of cultural heritage during the past 25 years, and its advancements in the coming 25 years will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 18 to 20 May 1998. The symposium will mark the 25-year jubilee of the School of Conservation of The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.

The symposium will include a wide range of presentations on conservation issues from academia, industry and government, including the European Commission's Directorate-General for Science, Research and Technological Development (DG XII).

Topics to be covered during the symposium will include, among others:

- Science and technologies for the protection and conservation of European cultural heritage;
- The science of conservation;
- Paper and book conservation;
- Textile and leather conservation;
- Picture cleaning;
- Wall paintings;

In addition, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the First General Assembly of ENCoR, the newly created European Network for Conservation/Restoration Education. The objective of this European network of conservators is to promote opportunities for collaboration between academic institutions for research on conservation and restoration in Europe. It is also intended to promote new partnerships between institutions providing high quality conservation and restoration activities in Europe. This event is also supported by DG XII of the European Commission, under the Environment and Climate RTD programme.
