The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies, part of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, is organizing a conference entitled "Strategic management for clean, innovative transport technology and sustainable mobility", to be held in Seville, Spain, from 8 to 10 June 1998.

Three EU-funded research projects provide the background to the conference. These are:

- SNM: Strategic Niche Management as a tool for transition to a sustainable transport system;
- UTOPIA: Urban Transport Options for Propulsion Systems and Instruments for Analysis;
- NEST: Strategic management of New Sustainable Transport Innovations.

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for the presentation of current best practices in transport innovation management. This will provide participants with the opportunity to discuss their expectations and needs in this context, and to debate related issues during workshops. A poster exhibition will complement the conference and a roundtable will be convened at the end to discuss policy perspectives on the strategic management of new transport technology.
