Improving university teaching

The twenty-third annual conference on enhancing the quality of learning and teaching in higher education will be held in Dublin, Ireland, from 6 to 9 July 1998. The aim of the event is to provide a forum for the exchange of experiences related to the effectiveness of post-secondary learning and teaching.

The conference will examine topics relevant to both teachers and administrators in higher education and to representatives of businesses and organizations concerned with higher education. The conference will also specifically address issues in relation to the Information Society and related impacts on both learning and teaching.

The theme of learning-centred education, as opposed to teaching-centred education will also be further developed. The topics to be covered during the conference will include:

- Academic values for the 21st century;
- The 21st century student;
- The new teacher-student relationship.

In addition, a series of workshops will be organized during the conference to ensure the active involvement of conference participants.
