The second European symposium on panel products will be held in Llandudno, United Kingdom, on 21 and 22 October 1998. The event will be organized by the BioComposites Centre at the University of Wales, Bangor, which conducts research on issues such as the processing of wood and plant materials.

The event will be divided into a series of poster and plenary sessions. The poster sessions will cover the following topics:

- Pineboard - a new family of high quality panels from wood dust;
- Thermal mechanical analysis of medium density fibreboard;
- Surface activation of lignocellulosics by chemical modification;
- PERPAN: a European project examining the long-term performance of wood-based panels;
- Exploitation of the shear properties of wood-based panels;
- Development and production of laboratory scale novel MDF panels from non-woven composite mattresses;
- Wood adhesives based on self-condensation of pine bark tannins;
- The manufacture of wood fibre reinforced cement composites.

The plenary session of the conference, which will be divided into six sections, will cover the following:

- Fundamental properties;
- Panel properties;
- Raw materials;
- Process technologies;
- Health and safety and marketing issues;
- Adhesion.
