The European Federation of Biotechnology will organise the first European symposium on applied genome research, to be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 26 and 27 November 1998. This will also mark the foundation of a new section of the Federation - on applied genome research - and will be the Federation's 100th event.

Topics to be covered during the conference will fall within the following subjects:

- Yeast genome and human diseases;
- Genome mapping and sequencing;
- Bioinformatics and proteomics;
- Functional and applied genomics;
- Industrial and SMEs genome research applications.

In addition two poster sessions will be devoted to:

- Genome mapping, sequencing, bioinformatics and proteomics;
- Functional and applied genomics.
