The third European wave energy conference will be held in Patras, Greece, from 30 September to 2 October 1998, with sponsorship from the European Commission. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for the exchange of information between researchers, scientists and industrialists, in order to improve understanding between the research and application aspects of wave energy.

The oceans hold huge potential in exploitable and renewable energies, and the results of scientific and industrial efforts in the past decades have shown that the conversion of these resources into usable energy is very promising. The aim of the conference is to present the latest research results in the field of wave energy, and it will cover all aspects incorporating waves, tidal and marine currents. The latest technical developments covering suitable conversion methods and strategies, as well as a description of the state-of-the-art will also be featured during the conference.

Topics to be addressed during the plenary sessions of the conference will include:

- Resources of energy;
- Technological development;
- Testing of concepts;
- Prototypes and applications;
- Economic and environmental aspects.
