The Innovation Relay Centre for Rhineland-Palatinate, in cooperation with the Technical University of Trier, will organise a conference on the "car of tomorrow" in Trier, Germany, on 8 October 1998. The aim of the event is to inform enterprises and research institutes on a range of topics including new technologies in motor sources, materials, passenger safety systems and electronic driver support.

During the conference, research developments in the automotive industry will be presented by researchers from the car industry and related suppliers. In addition, specific demonstrations and exhibits of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Trier will allow participants to see the latest trends in research and development in this area.

In particular the conference will focus on new motor concepts to fulfil requirements, such as emission limits, which are increasingly demanded of the car industry. This will involve, not only improvements in conventional combustion motor techniques, but also for the combination of combustion and electronic motors. In addition, alternative fuels and safety issues will also be considered.
