Interactive applications of mobile computing

An international workshop on interactive applications of mobile computing will be held in Rostock, Germany, on 24 and 25 November 1998. The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers, developers and practitioners in all areas of interactive mobile information systems to discuss individual problem areas in an interdisciplinary context.

Discussions will focus on the new problems posed by providing optimal support for users based on mobile computing hardware. The need for new approaches required for providing database and middleware support for mobile multimedia, adequate sensorics and environmental monitoring facilities, as well as the cognitive minimal intrusive integration of computer-generated assistive information will also be discussed.

Topics to be covered during the conference will include:

- Database support for mobile, interactive graphics and multimedia applications;
- Imaging, visualisation and presentation in distributed and mobile environments;
- Adaptive architectures for heterogeneous, dynamic and resource-limited infrastructures;
- Data and object models for mobile information systems;
- Environmental sensing technologies, situation and location dependent computing;
- User interface strategies and visualisation concepts for heterogeneous mobile devices;
- Modelling concepts for situation and task-dependent assistive support;
- Interactive mobile applications.
