15th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition

From Research to Market Deployment- Biomass for Energy, Industry and Climate Protection

7 May 2007 - 11 May 2007
Austria
The international events of the last few years have moved Bioenergy from the sidelines of the energy debate to the forefront. To a very large extent, Bioenergy can address the issue of fossil fuel replacement. Politicians all over the world have accepted this opportunity. Instead of a specialised term for experts, bioenergy has become a common term in political discussions. New legislative actions, policy documents and strategic analyses are constantly being prepared and adopted.

May 2007 will be a good time to review of the developments at all levels, including policy, markets, industry, technology, research and education.

Kyriakos Maniatis - Biofuels & Industry, European Commission DG TREN
Chair, International Energy Agency Bioenergy Implementing Agreement -
agreed to be the Chairman of the 15th European Biomass Conference on the understanding that he will be given the freedom to shape the Conference in such a way as to promote genuine debate in the above areas, in particular in terms of where we have been successful and where we have failed as a Community. He will especially endeavour to highlight political debate, industrial leadership and market topics during the Conference. For this reason he recommended the Conference theme "From Research to Market Deployment".

In the above process, and in addition to the traditional Organising and Scientific Committee, he will be assisted by a Chairman's Advisory Group consisting of five individuals who are highly recognised experts in their respective fields: Bjorn Telenius of STEM, Sweden, will assist on the policy arena; Tony Bridgwater of Aston University, UK, on the structure of the Conference and sessions; Javier Salgado Leirado, CEO of Abengoa Bioenergia, Spain, on industrial leadership; Anders Röj of Volvo Technology Corporation, Sweden, on market deployment and Andreas Heinz, National Expert European Commission - DG TREN, on breakthroughs by young bioenergy scientists.

In addition to the Conference there will be an Exhibition and all organising teams and he, under the guidance of Mr. Anders Röj from the Chairman's Advisory Group, will endeavour to make the co-current exhibition the most successful ever of the European series of Biomass Conferences.

We look forward to seeing you next May in Berlin, this exciting and fascinating city where the promotion of biomass resources, their applications and the market deployment of derived products is pushed forward at German governmental and institutional levels. We are convinced that on our departure from Berlin we will all feel significantly enriched by listening to your contributions.
