The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in association with the Technical University of Madrid will organise the nineteenth real-time systems symposium (RTSS) to be held in Madrid, Spain, from 2 to 4 December 1998. The conference will bring together a wide body of researchers and developers, to advance the science and practice of real-time computing.

The topics to be addressed during the conference will include the following:

- Systems and scheduling;
- Databases and file systems;
- Systems design and development;
- Timing analysis and compiler techniques;
- Operating systems and services;
- Testing, verification and analysis;
- Quality of service issues;
- Operating systems and run-time;
- Dependability and fault tolerance;
- Communications and networks.

The event will also feature an exhibition which will include a space for the demonstration of state-of-the-art systems, development tools and applications. Work in progress sessions will offer participants the opportunity to present or hear new work in real-time systems and applications. In addition, on the day preceding the conference, a workshop on programming languages for real-time industrial applications will be organised by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
