A conference on digital broadcasting will be held in London, United Kingdom, on 1 and 2 December 1998. It will comprise a series of plenary and streamed sessions addressing a wide range of issues on the latest research and technological developments in digital broadcasting. This event will provide a unique opportunity for enterprises to hear presentations from major industrialists in this area on roll-out strategies and market positioning for products.

The streamed sessions will address the following topics:

- PC/TV convergence;
- Set-top boxes;
- Electronic programme guides;
- Conditional access.

Examples of the topics to be addressed during the plenary sessions of the conference include:

- Understanding the key criteria in building a resilient network to support the demands of digital television;
- Analysing launch strategies worldwide and the take-up of digital television;
- Creating interactive content in digital broadcasting;
- Analysing consumer expectations of digital television;
- Resolving the intellectual property issues for patents essential to digital video broadcasting.

In addition, a one day pre-conference briefing will be open to participants and will examine the role of digital video broadcast standards in Europe and the rest of the world. A post-conference workshop will offer participants an opportunity to explore the challenges and benefits of picture quality testing in digital television systems.
