The second international conference on virtual communities will be held in Bath, United Kingdom, on 25 and 26 March 1999. The aim of the conference is to explore the rapidly developing field of virtual communities, which are created when a group of people with a common interest interact with one another in a computer-mediated rather than a physical environment.

Virtual communities have recently become the focus of attention from entrepreneurs, Web developers, publishers and investors, as well as from users. The conference will review what is happening in virtual communities at the moment, and discuss how to learn from current experience to help build successful virtual communities now and in the future.

The conference organisers are currently seeking programme suggestions and proposals for the presentation of papers from any potential participants at the conference.
