Partners for development
The meeting will comprise a series of intensive discussions, state-of-the-art interactive presentations and debates on a wide range of issues encompassing electronic commerce, investment, micro-finance, commodity risk management and biotrade.
The meeting will be composed of two tracks addressing the "Global Electronic Trade UN Partnership" and "Profit and development" with the aim of launching development partnerships. The first track will build on existing UNCTAD programmes dealing with the modernisation of trade-related administrations and the improvement of the access of developing countries to global information networks. The aim of partnerships established under this track will be to reinforce the capacity of companies from developing countries to enter the emerging global electronic marketplace, by promoting solutions to the security and legal issues involved in electronic commerce. Other partnerships will focus on human capacity building for electronic commerce.
The "Partnership for development" track will assess issues related to using market mechanisms to address development issues such as micro-finance, commodity risk management and structured finance, biotrade, and trade and investment.
