A conference on the implications of economic and monetary union for business information technology systems will be held in London, United Kingdom, on 2 and 3 December 1998. The aim of the conference is to ensure that the business systems of those participating meet the demands and embrace the opportunities of the single European currency.

The conference will comprise a series of presentations from specialists in the banking, regulatory and information technology sectors. The presentations will offer solutions to all relevant EMU technical issues, including project management, capacity planning, testing and implementation. The topics to be presented during the conference will include:

- The EMU systems challenge: an introduction and the future direction of practical and regulatory issues;
- Identifying the global business systems impact of the EMU;
- Benefiting from a common approach to EMU IT preparation;
- Avoiding the need for dual currency systems;
- Meeting EMU project costs through the economies of scale gained by outsourcing.
