ERES'99, the second international symposium on earthquake resistant engineering structures, will be held in Catania, Italy, from 15 to 17 June 1999. The event will be organised by the Wessex Institute of Technology, UK, and the University of Catania, Italy. The objective of the symposium is to provide a forum for discussion of both basic and applied research in the various fields of engineering relevant to earthquake resistant analysis and design of structural systems.

The topics to be discussed during the conference will include:

- Engineering seismology;
- Strong ground motion and site effects;
- Seismic hazard analysis and earthquake design loads;
- Stochastic analysis methods;
- Seismic isolation and control;
- Earth and concrete dams;
- Underground and lifeline structures.
