1st Workshop on IMS Enabled Converged Networks in Patras

At the "1st Workshop on IMS Enabled Converged Networks" in Patras, Greece, on 24 - 25 September 2007, European experts will discuss the present and future of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).

24 September 2007 - 25 September 2007
Austria
IMS has been developed as an architectural framework for delivering multimedia via the Internet Protocol (IP). The purpose of this workshop is to discuss IMS as an enabling technology for converged communication networks. The workshop addresses the key question, whether IMS is really the solution for true convergence and seamless communication, as some experts believe.

Particular workshop objectives:

- Discuss a series of present IMS features and functionalities in regard to problems, limitations and deadlocks that may eventually lead IMS to fall behind expectations and widespread adoption.

- Make projections into the future and contemplate IMS transformation and/or coexistence with emerging technologies such as P2P and Web 2.0 as well as their impact on social behaviour.

The two-day programme consists of keynotes and a panel discussion with invited speakers from industry and academia. During the second workshop day, a series of live demonstrations will be delivered by the participants of the two EU projects VITAL and Panlab, showing capabilities of testbeds that involve IMS-related scenarios, This will give participants the chance for a hands-on experience with IMS.

The workshop is targeted at service architects and product managers responsible for deploying new services over converged networks. Technical issues will be covered at a level that will support strategic decisions.

The event is jointly organised by the EU FP6 projects VITAL (http://www.ist-vital.eu(opens in new window)) and Panlab (http://www.panlab.net(opens in new window)). It will be held at the Conference and Cultural Centre of the University of Patras.
