MC-GARD - WORKSHOP 2: Genome bio-informatic techniques

Ever increasing resolution and throughput increases the amount of information gained from the experiments and form new challenges for the bio-informatics and statistics.

8 Septembre 2008 - 13 Septembre 2008
Portugal
Ever increasing resolution and throughput increases the amount of information gained from the experiments and form new challenges for the bio-informatics and statistics. This second training consists of a hands-on computer oriented course focusing on biologist with proven programming skills or (bio-)informaticians with a broad knowledge in genomics and biology. R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics (http://www.r-project.org/(s’ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre)) commonly applied in the field of genomics and elementary for a researcher to aid them in studying the human genome. Basic skills in R programming are a required prerequisite. Information gained from the newly developed techniques and genome (-sequencing) projects will require processing within private databases as well as public access databases (e.g. Ensembl.org). Part of the course will therefore include data processing and data warehousing.
The “genome bio-informatic techniques” training course will be held at the University of Minho School of Health Sciences, an innovative Medical School founded in 2001. For this MC-GARD training course the university has state of the art computer training facilities available.
