InteGRail presents a standard railway platform for better Information Management

The project developed solutions which enable the railways to increase their performance by applying intelligent ways of information management

11 September 2008
Austria
InteGRail is a European Research project regrouping 39 partners from 11 countries, coordinated by UNIFE. After almost four years of work, the project is now ready to present final results to the public for the first time. This will happen by means of a comprehensive dissemination plan.

Already planned events are:
1) 11-12 September
demonstration event in Prague. Focus is on Train Monitoring, based on InteGRail platform..
2) 23-26 September
InteGRail is at InnoTrans - Berlin. Visit us at Hall 18 - Stand 142.
3) 2 October
demonstration of ICOM (Intelligent Communication Framework) scheduled in Freidrichshafen (Germany).
More info at www.integrail.info in the area for Registered Visitors (login and go to IGR EVENTS) where you can download invitation and details for each event.

Project results will demonstrate a new, more integrated way to:
- Set up and run a new international freight service (Demo 1)
- Integrate data coming from rolling stock and infrastructure subsystems in order to have more complete and useful information on their condition (Demo 2)
- Monitor and supervise passenger trains during operation, efficiently handling any unexpected event and improving the maintenance process (Demo 3)
- Adopt more standardised communication between information systems (ICOM)
- Define and measure the performance of the railways (Management Game)

All results are based on a common Technology Platform, in accord with the InteGRail Vision:
railways should work as one single system, which can improve its performance by better managing and sharing information, even when different actors, countries and subsystems are involved.

Having the right information, at the right moment and in the right place, can allow railway people to take better decisions, optimising them according to a holistic view. This will improve the overall performance level and competitiveness of the railway system.

The InteGRail approach can be implemented gradually, bringing benefits even when implemented at a small scale, and later expanded without limits, while ensuring that new parts are consistent with already existing ones.
InteGRail results, some becoming now part of several standardisation proposals, will represent the needed basis on top of which to start building the European railway system of the future.
